What’s to Love: In my opinion, taking into account all the factors of “family value,” Cooper Spur Mountain Resort (CSMR) is the best option for families looking for a night (or more) away from Portland, especially when combining it with beginning-level skiers and/or snowboarders. They offer a package deal that includes a lift ticket, and rentals that is far less than the cost of a single lift ticket at neighboring resorts. The trade-off is limited terrain served by a single lift. Despite that limitation, if you’re looking for a laid-back resort that is family-friendly, this should be your next destination.
What’s to Love: The Oregon Garden is full of surprises, especially during the month of October when they host “Family Harvest Days” every Saturday from 1PM to 4PM. We went with every intention of visiting the Harvest stops, but we were quickly sidetracked by the tram tour and our own kids’ wanderlust through the well organized and meticulously maintained gardens.
What’s to Love: Of course, I’m a big fan of Portland, Oregon. However, while visiting Park City, Utah on one of our “Portland Getaways,” it was hard not to constantly imagine my family living in this beautiful town – a town filled with a lifetime of outdoor adventures. Amazing restaurants, summer concerts, three premier ski resorts (Park City Mountain Resort, Canyons Resort, and Deer Valley), Utah Olympic Park, summer adventure parks, endless lift-served mountain biking, and jaw-dropping-views await your family. What’s to Love: Are you making your plans for the winter holiday season? Portland Family Adventures highly recommends Black Butte Ranch during the Christmas holiday season. Black Butte Ranch comes alive during the festive holiday season. Close your eyes and imagine their properties and roads lightly dusted with some fluffy dry snow perfect for tooling around the resort on cross-country skis and quite possibly, sledding on some of the golf course hills. What’s to Love: Rest assured, when I visit places like the Great Wolf Lodge (GWL), I talk with as many parents as possible – gathering valuable feedback to pass along to my readers. On this visit, I spoke to at least 15 parents, and not one person had a negative thing to say about their experience at the GWL. I even fed them some criticisms I had read online, and they all looked at me like I was crazy. I think that says a lot right there! The reality at the GWL is that parents and kids absolutely love this place. If you bring your family, I’m confident that you’ll all have the time of your lives.
