Come join Adventures Without Limits (AWL) for an awesome winter weekend up at Mt Hood. We are staying at the historic Mazama Lodge (see below) in Government Camp, located at the bottom of the road up to Timberline. We will Snowshoe the first day from one of the local Snow Parks, and have lunch out on our tour. The length of the trip will be geared to the group, and we may even split into two groups. Everyone should be able to complete a tour that fits them, and we will adjust with you along the way if need be. We will return to Mazamas for dinner, relaxation and fun in the lodge. The second day will start off with breakfast at the lodge, followed by a XC Ski/Snowshoe tour (participants can choose to do either). We will have lunch out on the tour and then pack up and head home. We start and return on this trip from Forest Grove, Oregon, with pre-designated pick-up stops along the way (Beaverton/Hillsboro, Troutdale, Sandy).
AWL is a Non-Profit year-round outdoor recreation adventure program. We specialize in Inclusive Recreation (all for one and one for all) on our trips, which is supportive of families as well as people with disabilities.
Mazama Lodge, located on the southern slopes of Mt. Hood near Government Camp, Oregon, is an excellent winter destination. Beautifully situated in the Mt. Hood National Forest at 4,100 feet in elevation, the lodge has outstanding views of Mt. Jefferson to the south and the summit of Mt. Hood to the North. The Lodge provides access to cross-country and downhill skiing, mountaineering, hiking, fishing, mountain-biking, whitewater rafting, backpacking, canoeing, swimming, or simply unwinding in a peaceful atmosphere.
Mazama Lodge is owned and operated by the Mazamas, a Portland-based mountaineering organization established in 1894 on the summit of Mt. Hood. The Lodge is open to Mazamas and their guests, and to members of the Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs as well as other outdoor and conservation organizations. Additionally, other non-profit organizations such as churches, schools, and youth and civic groups may use the Lodge by special arrangement.
The Lodge is a large, three-story wooden building completed in 1960. On the third floor, the three dormitories and three private rooms can accommodate up to 80 guests. Spacious decks offer stunning views to the north and south. The third level also has men’s and women’s bathrooms with large tiled showers. On the second level is the main floor dining area and lounge, with comfortable seating around a beautiful stone fireplace. The lounge is enhanced by a piano for sing-alongs, and there are plenty of games, books, and magazines. Also on the lounge level is a TV room with VCR and an assortment of family-oriented videos. Kids of all ages will especially enjoy the basement level with its large recreation room and ping-pong, pool, and foosball tables. Ski lockers, laundry facilities, and a drying room are also found in the basement. The Lodge offers many areas where families and groups can gather for cards, discussions, or other private activities, or where new friendships may be started or old ones renewed.
