What’s to Love: Waluga park (east off Quarry Rd.) has a quaint little playground designed specifically for kids 6 and younger. The playground has a structure for older kids, and one for younger toddlers. We just sort of stumbled onto this property by accident, and it’s worth a stop if you’re in the area. There is plenty of shade, a drinking fountain with really good water, a covered picnic area, and a paved biking path. Because it’s tucked into a wooded neighborhood, this park feels like it’s out in the country.
Caveats: Not much to complain about here. This is a nice little park for a picnic and some playtime. The actual playground is pretty small, so I suppose it could get crowded pretty easily. The day we were there (Saturday morning), we had the area pretty much to ourselves.
Website: Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation
Distance from Portland: 8 to 10 miles from downtown Portland
Recommended Ages: 6 and younger for the playground equipment
Parental Stress Factor: Very low key spot
Physical Difficulty: Low…easy to get around at Waluga.
Family Fun Factor: Low to Medium – still a great place for young toddlers.
Pet Friendly: Dogs are okay on a leash
Weather Considerations: This playground has some decent cover from trees. There is also plenty of shade for hot, sunny days.
Insider Info: This would be a great place for a family reunion or a larger party. You can reserve the picnic shelter via the link provided above in the “website” section.
Family Tips: A paved bike path travels right through this park. Unfortunately, I’m uncertain as to where it ends up. If anyone has any information, please enter it in the comments section at the end of this post.
